Young's last three singles have all hit #1 on the charts including his single, "Getting You Home," which was nominated for a Grammy. Platinum selling artist, Atkins has received recognition from the Academy of Country Music as Top New Male Vocalist Award in addition to five other nominations and two Country Music Association nominations.
  • Throughout the day, four stages kept toes tapping with music from regional artists including Mango Punch, The Fab Five and The Tip Tops. Local groups including Ira Perez and the Kracker Nuttz entertained Houstonians at the event. More than 30,000 square feet of free educational programming and entertainment entertained children in the Walmart All American Kids Zone.
  • In keeping with last year's theme, Freedom Over Texas increased its offering of recycling receptacles, encouraging all patrons to recycle.
  • Additional recycling receptacles and signage were increased throughout the site. As a result, almost 25% of all trash collected during the day was recycled.
  • For the first time, the event featured food trucks and cooking demos by Celebrity Chefs; German Mosquera from Ruggles Green, Randy Evans from Haven and Monica Pope from T'afia in the Reliant Energy Red, White and Green Scene area of the festival.
  • KBR Liberty Park Zone showcased military artifacts and vehicles including representation from all five military branches and more. The branches and the Houston Police Department offered recruiting on site. The U.S. Army showcased an Apache Helicopter flight simulator and a 55-ton M-60 Battle Tank. Booths and exhibits included: KBR Liberty Park, Bud Light Zone, Walmart All-American Kids Zone, Reliant Energy Red, White and Green Scene and 2011 Land Rover Models.
  • With the donation of one canned item per person to the Houston Food Bank, admission for the event was FREE. For attendees who donated a Walmart Great Value product, Walmart matched their donation.
  • The event partnered with the Houston Food Bank for the second year to collect food donations to help the city's neediest families. More than 39,480 lbs. of food were collected, which included a match of 2,844 lbs from Walmart. This donation is equivalent to 33,066 meals for Houston area residents.
