STOP TRASHING HOUSTON

July 2, 2005 -- The City of Houston is serious about protecting neighborhoods. That includes protecting them from illegal dumping. The "Stop Trashing Houston" campaign has helped Houston focus on this citywide problem.

Mayor Bill White, on a recent bike ride along with Mayor Pro Tem Carol Alvarado, State Sen. Rodney Ellis, Assistant Police Chief Brian Lumpkin and others, encountered two men unloading construction debris on a lot in the northside neighborhood of Independence Heights. Lumpkin, head of the City's Neighborhood Protection Division, summoned other officers, and the men now face charges in the case.
