COUNCIL APPROVES RIC CAMPO AS HOTEL CORP. BOARD CHAIRMAN
Mayor White’s nominee to succeed Lanier; Dawn Ullrich named new president

May 5, 2004 -- Richard J. Campo has been approved as the new chairman of the Houston Convention Center Hotel Corporation (HCCHC), succeeding former Mayor Bob Lanier. The approval was a unanimous decision taken by Houston City Council at its April 21 meeting.

“Ric Campo has a wide range of experience in public and private real estate projects and an uncommon understanding of the related financing,” said Mayor Bill White, who nominated Campo. “And while nobody really replaces Mayor Lanier, Ric has the skills necessary to do an outstanding job as the Hotel Corporation’s new board chairman.”

Campo, 49, is chairman and CEO of Camden Property Trust, one of the nation’s largest multifamily real estate investment trusts with a portfolio valued in excess of $5 billion. He has served on the Harris County/Houston Sports Authority board since its inception in August 1997 and is presently secretary/treasurer and chairs the finance committee.

The HCCHC is a non-profit corporation created February 2, 2000, by City Council with a mandate to build and operate a 1,200-room convention headquarters hotel, which opened on time and within budget on December 4, 2003, as the Hilton Americas-Houston.

In addition, Dawn Ullrich, director of the City of Houston’s Convention & Entertainment Facilities Department, was named president of the corporation at the HCCHC board meeting on March 8. Ullrich, 48, succeeds Gerard J. Tollett in the position.

“Dawn Ullrich has proven to be a most able administrator during the course of her 25-year career with the City of Houston,” Mayor White said. “She knows how to manage large public facilities, including the George R. Brown Convention Center, and fully understands all the issues related to the Hilton Americas.”

In other action taken by the HCCHC board, Carin Marcy Barth was reappointed as secretary, Janiece Longoria was reappointed treasurer, and Munir Ibrahim was appointed to the board.
