TRUCK ZONE ORDINANCE TO BE EFFECTIVE MARCH 1, 2005 Commercial Vehicles Must Display Valid Permits
February 2, 2005 -- The Municipal Courts Department will enforce the truck zones ordinance in the Central Business District effective March 1, 2005. This ordinance requires that commercial vehicles have a registered permit or park at a designated parking meter. The parking meter rate is $5 per hour.
The truck zone signage and the meters in the downtown truck zones will be effective and in place on March 1. Any vehicle parked in violation of this ordinance shall be subject to towing at the direction of any law enforcement officer or parking enforcement officer. The areas affected are within the Central Business District.
PARKING FEE - Alternative to Permit
Commercial vehicle operators may park the vehicle in a truck loading zone space or spaces during posted hours of operation for the zone by paying a fee of $5 per hour per metered space at the meter(s) in that zone. Commercial vehicles may park in a truck loading zone space or spaces at a $5 per hour provided that the commercial vehicle is being loaded and unloaded expeditiously and the meter is not allowed to expire.
Commercial vehicles without a permit may use one or more metered passenger vehicle spaces, or portions of such spaces, within the same block face as the unmetered truck loading zone, by paying the metered rates for each space wholly or partially occupied by such vehicle.

May park up to one hour in a truck loading zone. This permit can only be obtained one time per year and is good for 21 days.

May park in any "no parking" or "tow away" zones.

Where no zone exists, the fee will be based upon a rate of $5 per hour, per loading zone space and/or each 20 linear feet of curb occupied. The fee shall be paid in advance and is non-refundable in the event a lesser time is used.
Permits can be obtained from the Traffic & Transportation Division of the Public Works Department, 611 Walker, 2nd floor cashier. Once the fee is paid, take receipt to the 5 th floor to receive permit. Office hours are 8:15 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4:30, Monday through Friday.
