Response to LULAC Press Conference
April 21, 2005 -- LULAC officials have advised City Attorney Arturo Michel they were not yet authorized to release a copy of their complaint to us, so it would be difficult for us to comment in any meaningful detail about something we have not seen. We understand that they have filed a complaint with both the U.S. Department of Justice and U.S. Department of Transportation about a number of specific cases. If either department is entertaining an official complaint, we may be further limited as to what we can say about the case.
What we can say is that discrimination on the basis of race or ethnic background is against the law. It is also against City policy. We have taken great care not to violate either one.
