CITY OF HOUSTON EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT ANNOUNCES EVACUATION REGISTRY FOR CITIZENS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS
February 3, 2006 -- Citizens with medical disabilities or transportation needs can now pre-register with the City of Houston's Office of Emergency Management for help in case of an emergency evacuation.
"We need to better identify the number and the location of those who will need our help in an emergency," said Mayor Bill White.
Since June 2005, the Office of Emergency Management has been working with volunteer and government agencies, including the State of Texas and Harris County, and several home service providers to develop a registration form for those who might need assistance during an evacuation.
Citizens who register will be asked to keep their information current and update it annually. Registration Documents will remain confidential, and will be maintained by the Houston Office of Emergency Management. Persons outside the City of Houston will have their registration forms delivered to the Emergency Management Office of the jurisdiction where they reside.
The registration forms is available through the Office of Emergency Management's website www.houstontx.gov/oem/Registration 2006.pdf, Home Service Providers (i.e. Meals on Wheels, AAA, etc.) and the Houston Health Department. Registration forms should be mailed to OEM BEFORE March 30, 2006.
Questions should be directed to the Houston Office of Emergency Management (713) 884-4500.
