MAYOR BILL WHITE HOSTS LYONS AVENUE RECONSTRUCTION GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY

February 20, 2006 -- Mayor White kicked off the Lyons Avenue street reconstruction project with a groundbreaking ceremony, joined by City of Houston Public Works Director Mike Marcotte, Community Leader Joe Padilla, Landtech Vice President Thomas A. Staudt, and Terry Williamson of Texas Sterling Construction.

This project features the reconstruction of the worn and failed pavement with new 10" thick, steel reinforced concrete paving with curbs and sidewalks; 2-lane, 2-way traffic configuration with marked bike lanes, new storm drains with increased capacity, new traffic signalization, and new sewer and water services. The City of Houston has worked with TXDOT to proceed with construction on the west end of Lyons from Waco west to US59 simultaneously.

"A few months of construction will end with a new street good for years to come," said Marcotte. "We are asking that citizens bear with a few inconveniences until the project is completed."
