MAYOR BILL WHITE APPOINTS DAVID MINCBERG SPECIAL ASSISTANT ON MULTI-FAMILY HOUSING

David MincbergJune 30, 2006 -- Mayor Bill White announced today that David Mincberg has been named Special Assistant to the Mayor for Multi-Family Housing. The Mayor has asked Mincberg to serve in his administration as a "Dollar a Year Executive" with responsibility for coordinating the policies of the City's Department of Housing and Community Development, the Housing Authority of the City of Houston, and the Houston Housing Finance Corp.

"We're fortunate to have someone of David's private-sector experience willing to step into public service and help us reach our goal of significantly and efficiently expanding affordable housing for Houston. He will be a key member of our team," said Mayor White.

Mincberg said his goal is to significantly increase the output of the three departments and provide more high-quality affordable housing for Houstonians quickly, taking into account the desires of our neighborhoods.

Mincberg, 55, is Chairman and CEO of Flagship Properties Corp., a Houston based real estate investment company, including mezzanine and equity investments. He has been involved in the construction and development of over 30,000 multifamily units throughout Texas and the southern United States. Additionally, Mincberg has invested in a variety of businesses in the Houston area.

He has been active in numerous civic and charitable endeavors here. He currently serves on the boards of the Houston Museum of Natural Science and Planned Parenthood of Houston and Southeast Texas. He is a past president of the Jewish Family Service Foundation Board and the American Jewish Committee. He also previously served as Chair of the Democratic Party of Harris County. He is a past member of the Board of Directors of the Jewish Community Center, the DePelchin Children's Center and the Executive Committee of the Board of the Houston Child Guidance Center. David is a founder and a past president of Houston Southwest 2000, Inc., a group formed to help revitalize the southwest area of Houston. He has been honored by receiving the Jewish Federation of Greater Houston's Young Leadership Award (1991), the Mickey Leland Humanitarian Award by the NAACP (1994), the University of Texas Tejas Club Distinguished Alumni Award (2001), and the Houston Chapter of the American Jewish Committee Max H. Nathan Human Relations Award (2003).

David is a native Houstonian, a graduate of the University of Texas (B.A 1971, J.D. 1975) where among numerous activities and honors he was president of the Friar Society, the University's oldest and highest honorary for scholarship and leadership. David is married to Lainie Gordon; they are the parents of five children.
