CITY OF HOUSTON SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETES PHASE 1 OF HoustonOne PROJECT: ISSUES 30,000th PAYMENT FROM NEW SYSTEM Nation's 4th Largest City announces initial success with HoustonOne Project
October 23, 2006 - The City of Houston, Texas, announced the successful implementation of its new integrated, materials management and financial accounting system. The success of this project was demonstrated by the issuance of the 30,000th vendor payment from its new system and three successful month-end closes. "This is a major milestone in the replacement of our legacy systems that support our procurement, financial, human resources, and payroll functions," said Richard Lewis, Chief Information Officer for the City.
In April 2005, the City of Houston selected SAP's ERP software and engaged SAP Consulting to assist with the City's multimillion-dollar, two-phase modernization project. The new system is designed to streamline business processes, improve operating efficiencies, and ultimately improve delivery of services to its citizens. The City adapted an aggressive, eleven-month timeline for the design, configuration, testing, training, data conversion, and implementation for Phase I. The new financial / materials management system was implemented on July 5, 2006. During the past three months of live operations, the City's Project Team worked closely with departments across the City to reinforce training, resolve support issues, and continually improve implemented solutions.
Achieving this first, major milestone for our ERP project is significant. It improves our ability to provide high quality, responsive services across City Departments, to our employees, and to the Citizens of Houston, according to Lewis.
The City's project team now turns its focus to Phase 2, which includes functionality to help the city improve human resources and payroll process, and is planned to go-live in early 2007.
