Holiday Tree PicDecember 1, 2006 -- Mayor Bill White and KHOU Channel 11 invite all Houstonians to the annual Mayor's Holiday Celebration hosted by Deborah Duncan and Ron Treviño, featuring live music, fireworks sponsored by Cricket Communications, Inc., and the lighting of the City's official holiday tree sponsored by Reliant Energy. This year's holiday celebration will take place on Hermann Square next to City Hall, 901 Bagby, from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 8, 2006.

"This is a great chance for Houstonians of all backgrounds and faiths to come together as a community and celebrate the spirit behind the season and have some family fun," said Mayor White.

Musical artists performing at the Celebration include Houston's own Grammy award nominee Scott Gertner, along with Mary Griffin, who tours with Patti LaBelle and the Ernest Walker Band; Al Jarreau's music director, Chris Walker; Jeff Timmons of 98 Degrees and Anthony Glover. Also appearing will be Grupo Kache, Savvy, Parker Elementary Chorus, Houston Boy Choir, and Santa and Mrs. Claus.

The Reliant Energy-sponsored official tree for this year's Holiday Celebration is a blue spruce from the state of New York, measuring approximately 50 feet.

"Because downtown and Houston are home for us, we welcome the opportunity to sponsor the City of Houston's holiday tree." said Matthew Benner, senior vice president, Reliant Energy Retail Marketing & Operations. "It is a core value at Reliant to care for and give back to the communities in which we live and work. Events like this one provide us and people from all over the city -- from all different backgrounds -- an opportunity to come together and celebrate the holiday season in a way that makes us proud to be Houstonians."

A special thank you to the sponsors that contributed to this year's Holiday Celebration: Reliant Energy, Channel 11 - Spirit of Texas, Cricket Communications, Inc., City of Houston, Downtown District, Houston Parks & Recreation Department.
