NAMES CHOICE FOR NEW CITY HUMAN RESOURCES DIRECTOR
January 17, 2007 --Mayor Bill White today announced the nomination of Norma F. Dunn, an energy company senior executive and former executive director of the M.D. Anderson Center for Cancer Economics, as Human Resources Director for the City of Houston.
"Norma has a wealth of experience, a strong management background, and a successful track record as a communicator. She has worked with Fortune 20 companies on "Best Practices" for employee relations, recruitment and retention and we feel fortunate to have her," said Mayor White. "She understands the challenges of helping us manage the City's large, diverse work force and achieving our goal of having the most effective and efficient City Hall in the nation."
Pending confirmation by City Council, Dunn would report for duty in early February.
"Houston is a terrific city with great employees who provide crucial services to citizens each and every day. I am proud to be a part of this team that works so hard," said Dunn.
A graduate of the University of Texas-El Paso and a Certified Public Accountant, Dunn leaves the post of senior vice president of communications for the Kansas City, Mo., - based Aquila Inc., an electric and natural gas utility. From 2004-2005 she served as executive director of the Center for Cancer Economics. From 1987-2003, she worked at Houston-based El Paso Corp. She was that firm's senior vice president of communications and government affairs from 1999 until she left the company.
Dunn is a native of El Paso, Texas.
Mayor White thanked Candy Clarke Aldridge who served as Acting Director of Human Resources while a nationwide search was conducted. Aldridge will resume her duties as Assistant Director of Human Resources.
"Candy is a real professional and a team player who has served City employees and citizens well," said Mayor White.
