STATEMENT FROM MAYOR BILL WHITE ON RELIANT ENERGY RATE DECREASE, WIND-POWER OFFERING

April 16, 2007 -- Mayor Bill White today welcomed an announcement that Reliant Energy is lowering its rate for residential customers and making a new 100 percent wind power rate available at the same lower price.

"Saving energy and saving Houstonians money on energy costs are two of our most important priorities as we continue to keep our city growing at its remarkable pace," said Mayor White. "Seeing energy providers respond as the summer cooling season begins is encouraging. Also, adding options for environmentally friendly renewable sources like wind is another step in the right direction."

Reliant announced today that it is lowering its price for "Residential Service Plan" customers by 10 percent and is offering a plan for wind-generated energy at the same price. Rates will decrease by 1.7 cents per kilowatt hour, from 16.3 cents to 14.6 cents for customers using 1,000 kilowatt hours per month, according to the announcement. The 100-percent wind power plan will be at the same 14.6-cent-per-kilowatt-hour price.
