MAYOR BILL WHITE, ZZ TOP SUPPORT DROPOUT PREVENTION

June 24, 2008 -- Legendary rock group ZZ Top and Eagle Rock Entertainment today donated 200 copies of its first-ever live concert DVD for resale in the City Hall Visitors Center. Mayor Bill White accepted the donation on behalf of Expectation Graduation, a program designed to help more students complete high school.

"ZZ Top long ago graduated to the top of their field in music," Mayor White said. "This is a great way for Houston's distinguished rock band to help ensure that future generations of young people graduate from high school."

Band members Billy F Gibbons, Dusty Hill and Frank Beard premiered the DVD, Live from Texas, Monday night at the downtown Hard Rock Café at the Bayou Place entertainment complex.

"Houston has been so good and supportive to us over the years that it's only fitting that we do what we can to give something back. We're happy to be helping Expectation Graduation and, by extension, Houston," ZZ Top guitarist Billy F Gibbons said.

Live from Texas is a 17-song compilation stemming from the inception of that little ol' band from Texas in 1969. With a running time of more than two hours, the DVD also features Gibbons, Hill and Beard discussing the evolution of the band, behind-the-scenes footage before a concert, and a band photo shoot. Initial quantities of the DVD will come packaged in a slimline digipack with a booklet of exclusive live photos.

Live From Texas retails for $24.98 on Blu-Ray and $14.98 on DVD. It is released by Eagle Rock Entertainment, a division of Eagle Rock Group, LTD.

In 2006, ZZ Top was enshrined in the Houston Hall of Fame at the George R. Brown Convention Center.
