CITY OF HOUSTON'S RESIDENTIAL ENERGY EFFICIENCY PROGRAM RECEIVES FEDERAL STIMULUS FUNDS TO HELP WEATHERIZE LOW-INCOMEHOME FOR HOUSTONIANS
October 30, 2009 -- The City of Houston has been awarded federal stimulus funding to expand the Residential Energy Efficiency Program (REEP). The City of Houston was awarded $23,447,474 through the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs Weatherization Assistance Program. The funds will be used to provide energy efficiency measures to low-income Houstonians to help reduce energy consumption. In its third year, the City of Houston, in partnership with CenterPoint Energy has successfully weatherized over 7,000 homes and has reduced residential energy bills by an average of 12-18%.
As part of the program, qualified Houstonians receive energy savings measures at no cost; including, attic insulation, window caulking, and more. By helping low-income qualified homeowners, the REEP program helps bring down the cost of homeowner energy bills and reduce energy consumption in the city.
Crews will begin work on homes by the end of November 2009. Please see www.reephouston.net to download an application or call 832-393-8101 to request an application.
