March 9, 2010 -- Media Advisory

WHO -- Mayor Annise Parker; Dr. Bruno Ferrari, CEO of ProMexico

WHAT -- Signing of a memorandum of understanding to promote trade and economic development between the City of Houston and Mexico

WHEN -- Tuesday, March 9 at 3:30 p.m.

WHY -- Mexico is Houstonís largest trading partner.  Houstonís Mexican-American population is the largest in Texas and the third largest in the United States.  Houston has more nonstop destinations to Mexico than any other U.S. gateway and is also a primary gateway to Latin America.  This MOU will connect the City of Houston and ProMexico, the trade promotion agency of the Federal Government of Mexico, creating an invaluable channel with which to jointly identify business opportunities and economic development possibilities.  The City of Houston Mayorís Office is agreeing to work with the Houston Branch of ProMexico, the Consulate General of Mexico in Houston, the Greater Houston Partnership, the U.S. Department of Commerceís U.S. Export Assistance Center and the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce to implement the terms of this MOU and bring benefits to both sides.
