Mayor Parker First to Announce Participation in Comcast Local Media Initiative, Houston's Voice to Highlight All Things Houston Through Video

February 27, 2012 --Houston's Voice, a Social Video Portal to Strengthen Local Access Programming and Community Connectivity for the City of Houston.

Mayor Annise Parker today announced the beta launch of Houston's Voice in partnership with Comcast.  Houston's Voice (www.houstonsvoice.com) is the locally branded website under the Project Open Voice (POV) initiative dedicated to the discovery of local content, including public, educational, governmental (PEG) programming. Of the six pilot communities, Mayor Parker was first to publicly announce the POV beta launch.
"Houston's Voice is a welcomed OnDemand and online resource," said Houston Mayor Annise Parker.  "Due to Comcast's vision and support, residents can unite online, share resources, and discover a Houston they never knew.  Houston's Voice will ultimately facilitate delivery of exciting content showcasing the talent and vibrancy of the place we call home to our desktops and mobile phones."

Houston was chosen by Comcast to be one of the six pilot cities due to its large, diverse community and geography, and its strong PEG environment. The five other participants are: Fresno, CA; Hialeah, FL; Peterborough, NH; Philadelphia, PA; and Medford, MA. Each market's online presence is distinctively named.
Houston's Voice is an open, social environment featuring content in two key layers: "My Houston" and "My Neighborhood."  My Houston will represent a macro view of vibrant content related to how Houstonians live, work and play.  My Neighborhood will drill deeper to explore Houston at a micro level as seen through the eyes of local video creators. An events calendar will capture the multiplicity of functions available to Houstonians.
The public is invited to visit and explore Houston's Voice (www.houstonsvoice.com), become a member of the online community, or apply to become an approved organization partner.
