City of Houston Launches Update of Newsroom Website

November 21, 2013 -- In an effort to increase transparency and build relationships with media from Houston and all over the world, the City of Houston is proud to announce the launch of a newly updated City of Houston Newsroom website.

Housed at houstongovnewsroom.org, the site will connect media with the City like never before. Updates from City departments about ongoing programs, new initiatives, and public safety incidents will be made available on the site, and users can register to receive these notices via email. Automatic connectors also allow for news releases and other media products to automatically post to City of Houston Twitter accounts and Facebook pages.

The Newsroom features RSS and ATOM feed capabilities, which allow media organizations to monitor City media releases and incident updates in real-time.

Built on an emergency public information platform, the Newsroom will also play a key role during times of disaster, allowing media and the public to access timely and accurate emergency notices.

Members of the media can sign up for emails based on City department or function, or can sign up to receive all City of Houston media products.

If media organizations had previously been signed up to receive notifications from one or more City departments, they will need to re-register to ensure they continue receiving these media products after December 1st. Detailed instructions on how to register for the site can be found here.
