Mayor's Office Press Release

City of Houston To Host First Compliance Week

October 30, 2015 -- Keeping up with its tradition of encouraging employees to behave according to the highest standards, the City announced today that it will hold its first “Compliance Week” November 1 through 7, 2015.  Held in conjunction with National Compliance and Ethics Week, the City’s Compliance Week presents an opportunity for City employees to focus on ethics and legal compliance and to refresh required policy training.

Compliance and ethics education is integral to the City’s new employee orientation and a regular part of training received by new supervisors and elected officials.  During Compliance Week City employees will receive information about the City’s newly established Office of Compliance and Ethics, daily compliance tips and have the opportunity to attend special training sessions on topics ranging from Title VI language access to City purchasing policies.

“As City employees and elected officials we have a great deal entrusted to us,” said Mayor Annise Parker.  “Acting ethically and in compliance with our legal obligations is key not only to our good reputations but to our success in maintaining Houston as being the very best place to live, work and raise a family.”

Compliance Week represents the start of a new conversation about ethics.  It also illustrates one of the many ways the City is acting to help its employees make the right decisions every day of the year.
