Paying It Forward: Houstonians Asked to Donate Supplies to California Wildfire Relief Efforts
Houston Relief Hub Will Serve as the Donation Collection Site
November 20, 2018 -- As California faces another year of devastating wildfires responsible for the heartbreaking loss of life and incredible destruction, the City of Houston and The Houston Relief Hub will collect donations to assist those affected by the California wildfires.
"Our city will never turn its back on people around the country who may need assistance during and following a disaster, whether it is flooding, a hurricane or a catastrophic wildfire," Mayor Sylvester Turner said. "This is the time of year we count our blessings and share with others. I encourage people to donate to the relief effort if they are in a position to assist at this time."
The relief effort will accept donations of the following items:
- N95 Respirator Masks (Urgent need for this item)
- Bottled Water
- Non-perishable Food Items
- Personal Hygiene Items
- Gently Used Clothes and Toys
- Pet Food and Supplies
“Many of us have personal connections to California, and it’s painful to watch the destruction from afar. During the season of Thanksgiving, I encourage Houstonians, who are able, to donate to this effort and assist people in need," Houston Relief Hub founder Bill Baldwin said. "California generously helped us during our time of need after Hurricane Harvey, and now it’s our turn to Pay it Forward.”
Donations can be dropped off at the following location:
Boulevard Realty office, 833 Studewood St. between the hours of 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM daily. The office will be closed 11/22/18 in observance of Thanksgiving.
The City of Houston and The Houston Relief Hub will coordinate Houston's Paying It Forward Wildfire Relief Efforts and work with local entities to ship and deliver supplies next week.
Last month, Houston's Pay it Forward efforts collected items for victims of Hurricane Michael and Hurricane Florence
