  • Fleming Park Bird Totem, 1991
  • Fletcher Mackey
  • Cypress and Cedar Wood, Glazed Ceramic, Copper, Painted Steel
  • 15' tall

Located in Martha Fleming Park, 1901 Sunset Boulevard, 77005

Donated to the City of Houston in 1991 by the Friends of Fleming Park.

The form for the sculpture was inspired by the totems produced by Native Americans in the Pacific North West, which the artist encountered during a trip to Vancouver, B. C.  The sculpture is also a functioning birdhouse.

Fletcher Mackey was born in Houston in 1950.  He received a MFA in painting from the California Institute of the Arts.  Mackey is currently a professor at the Maryland Institute College of Art.
