Department of Neighborhoods Invites Houstonians to
“Celebrate the Many Faces of Houston”
Mayor Parker Proclaims November as "Houston Citizenship Month"

November 4, 2015 -- Houston Mayor Annise Parker has proclaimed November 2015 as Houston Citizenship Month, a celebration of “The Many Faces of Houston.”  In its seventh year, the celebration highlights Houston’s rich cultural diversity, civic leadership and volunteer community service with hundreds of special events sponsored by numerous community organizations and cultural and educational institutions.

"Citizenship Month is a call to Houstonians to put into practice the ideals of good citizenship,” said Mayor Parker.  “This means taking on the shared responsibility of serving our community as civic leaders and volunteers to ensure that our city continues to be the best city to proudly call home.”

“The Department of Neighborhoods takes pride in working with community advisors year-round to present this annual showcase for everyone to enjoy,” said department director Katye Tipton.  “It’s about people coming together to celebrate inclusiveness and diversity and an opportunity for citizens to network and get involved."

A wide variety of events and activities are scheduled, including performing arts, art exhibits, films, lectures, discussions, children's story times, arts and crafts, festivals and charity walks/runs.  The event venues include designated city libraries, museums, university campuses, neighborhood centers, green spaces and other locations.
