TEXAS MEDICAL CENTER EXECUTIVE JOYCE CAMP APPOINTED TO PUBLIC PARKING COMMISSION
Commission Complete With Addition of Ninth Mayor-Appointed Member

Joyce CampJune 2, 2006 -- Houston Mayor Bill White announced the completion of all appointments to the Public Parking Commission this week when City Council confirmed the appointment of Joyce Camp, of Texas Medical Center (TMC), for a term ending in December 2007.

Serving as a public forum, the citizen-led Public Parking Commission, the first of its kind in Texas, consists of nine mayor-appointed regular members and six ex-officio members, all serving without compensation.

Camp, senior vice president for TMC, directs institutional and customer services and is responsible for managing the parking operation, mobility and transportation. TMC operates one of the largest parking operations in the country, managing more than 26,000 spaces, including 18 garages and 23 surface lots. Under Camp’s direction, TMC has added 7,550 parking spaces to accommodate growth.

"Joyce’s extensive background and knowledge of parking operations will contribute significantly to the Commission’s management of available parking throughout our city,” said Mayor White, who approved the creation of a citizen-led Parking Commission in August 2005. “The Commission’s primary goal is to direct the Parking Management division in resolving and improving on various parking issues. With Joyce’s appointment, the organization will be even more equipped to take on these matters.”

The Public Parking Commission will also recommend parking-related ordinances and capital improvement projects to City Council, gather and review data relating to the City’s present and future parking needs, maintain a comprehensive inventory of the on-street parking supply and recommend to City Council all matters for the management, development and advancement of the City’s parking needs or facilities.
