CITY OF HOUSTON ASSISTANT DIRECTOR FOR PARKING MANAGEMENT HONORED BY NATIONAL FORUM FOR
BLACK PUBLIC ADMINISTRATORS (NFBPA)

Liliana RamboJune 30, 2006 -- City of Houston Assistant Director for Parking Management Liliana Rambo has been honored with the “Award of Distinction” by the Houston chapter of the National Forum for Black Public Administrators (NFBPA). The organization selected Rambo for her exemplary leadership and distinction in public service.

Rambo is the first individual to receive the award and was recognized at a recent NFBPA - Houston chapter welcoming reception, held at City Hall in Sugar Land, Texas, a Houston suburb.

A leader with a strong background and more than 19 years of experience in the Parking industry, Rambo was born in Colombia and raised in South Florida. Joining the City of Houston Parking Management division in April 2005, she is responsible for on-street parking operations, including almost 6,000 on-street parking spaces, meter operations, parking enforcement, customer service and administration.

“This award is presented to recognize and honor Black Americans whose accomplishments serve as a source of inspiration and encouragement to younger, aspiring administrators for senior public management positions in the years ahead,” said Bonita Cade, a public administrator in Houston and president of the NFBPA - Houston chapter.

“Also recognized were newly-elected and appointed Black public officials within Harris and Fort Bend Counties, providing an opportunity for them to meet with our membership to discuss local issues, network and exchange ideas.”

Rambo is the first Black Hispanic to hold the position of assistant director for the Parking Management division and has reinforced its mission to ensure the highest level of customer service.

Under her leadership, the first citizen-led Parking Commission in the state of Texas has been appointed in Houston, a technologically-advanced meter project has been initiated, the Disabled Parking Volunteer Program has expanded to include more than 400 citizen volunteers and a community outreach program has been developed, presenting enforcement issues relative to residential areas to Super Neighborhood groups and homeowner’s association meetings.

“Liliana is an ideal candidate for such a reward because of her positive contributions and the direction she has taken in managing our public parking system," said Dawn Ullrich, director of the City of Houston Convention and Entertainment Facilities Department. “She constantly reinforces Mayor White's commitment to making traffic on our streets run smoothly and making City Hall more efficient and responsive."
