International Water Safety Day
Worldwide, drowning is one of the leading causes of accidental death. International Water Safety Day is designed to educate youth to be safe in and around the water while spreading global awareness of this crisis.
Join the Houston Parks and Recreation Department Aquatic Staff Tuesday, May 15, at the Memorial Park Aquatic Center, 6402 Arnot, for Houston’s observance of International Water Safety Day! Meet the lifeguards, register for swimming classes, and enjoy demonstrations of swimming, water safety, and water fitness!
Learn to Swim
The Houston Parks and Recreation Department, in partnership with the American Red Cross, offers Learn to Swim classes at select pools for both children and adults. A $30 fee is required per session. Checks may be made payable to American Red Cross.
Register for Learn to Swim classes:
On line – beginning May 7, get your registration form either from the H.P.A.R.D website, www.houstonparks.org, or the Houston Area American Red Cross at www.houstonredcross.org, and mail it along with your payment to American Red Cross, P.O. Box 397, Houston, TX 77001-0397.
Credit Card - Payment may be made by phone at 713.313.1614, by mail or in person at the ARC Chapter Headquarters.
Cash - A cash payment can only be made at Chapter Headquarters located at 2700 Southwest Freeway, Houston, TX 77098.

Classes are scheduled Tuesday through Friday for 40 minutes. Each session lasts two weeks. The first class of each session will involve skills evaluation. A parent or guardian must be present at the pool during each class.

Levels
Preschool Aquatics - Offered at Townwood pool only, classes start at 4:30 p.m.
Level 1 - Introduction to water, classes start at 9:10 a.m. and 5:15 p.m.
Level 2 - Water skills, classes start at 10:00 a.m. and 6:05 p.m.
Level 3/4 - Stroke Development, classes start at 6:55 p.m. (not offered at Townwood)
Adult Lessons - Offered at Memorial and Sharptown pools only, classes start at 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
