Disc golf combines the challenges and traditions of one of the world's greatest games - golf - with a modern recreational phenomenon - disc throwing. The object of the game is to achieve par or below by throwing a flying disc known as a "golf disc" over a course of 9 or 18 holes. Instead of hitting a ball with a club into a hole in the ground, a flying disc is thrown in a basket known as a "pole hole" or DISC catcher." The hole is complete when the disc strikes the "target zone."
Disc golf is an activity the entire family can enjoy. It is inexpensive, healthful and a great way to enjoy the outdoors. Houston Parks and Recreation Department has nine disc golf courses ranging from 9 to 18 holes in parks throughout the city.
Disc golf courses are open to the public during normal park hours of operation. To reserve a disc golf course for a special event, contact the Houston Parks and Recreation Department’s Ballfields and Reservation Office at 713-845-1206 and 845-1218, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
