MANAGEMENT AND FINANCE

The Management and Finance Division handles the budget, payroll, accounting and grant acquisition duties the other divisions require to operate.  They oversee hiring and training employees, provide Information Technology and purchasing support, and help ensure the safety of employees through Risk Management.  The division also provides a full range of benefit administration services for the department.

Division Highlights:

  • They develop and oversee an anuual budget in excess of $57 million.
  • The Human Resources section administers a hiring process that currently includes over 1,300 employees.
  • They oversee all the departments' revenue-producing contracts and conduct routine inspections to ensure compliance with contract requirements.
  • The Risk Management section conducts facility inspections, emplyee safety briefings, and accident investigations.
  • The training staff ensures scheduling and completion of annual internal training and works closely with outside agencies to obtain additional training opportunities to advance our employees' skill and knowledge.
  • From basketballs to tractors to office supplies, the Purchasing section handles an acquisition process that encompasses the entire Parks and Recreation Department.
  • With more than 200 businesses providing services to the Parks and Recreation Department, there is never a dull day in the Accounts Payable section, which manages the payments of all incoming invoices.
  • The Benifits staff provides a full range of services for all the departments' employees, including retirement, pension and medical coverage.
  • The Revenue Management section ensures the proper receipt and deposit of revenues from concessionaires and revenue generating department facilities.
  • The division manages the financial duties of the City of Houston's After School Achievement and Summer Food Programs, providing guidance and assistance to the schoolchildren of Houston.
