History of The First Tee of Houston at F.M. Law Park

The First Tee of Houston at F.M. Law Park is part of an initiative of the 501(c) (3) nonprofit World Golf Foundation. The facility was designed and constructed by Houston’s own Jay Riviere and was completed in October of 2000. The center, built on 70 acres of land, includes a nine-hole course, a lighted 80-station driving range and short game area, putting green, chipping green and an indoor learning center. The learning center offers indoor practice areas, video facilities and staff offices. 

Fund-raising for the $1.4 million facility was led by Houston Parks Board Member Nancy Reynolds and included gifts from The First Tee, The World Golf Foundation, Inc., Shell Oil Company, United States Golf Association, the Wortham Foundation, the Fondren Foundation and several other private foundations and individuals.

Junior Golf Instruction

The First Tee of Houston at F.M. Law Park’s mission is to impact the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values, and promote healthy choices through the game of golf.

As part of The First Tee Experience the program strives to instill its nine core values of Confidence, Courtesy, Honesty, Integrity, Judgment, Perseverance, Respect, Responsibility and Sportsmanship into all participants. Through the Life Skills Experience, young people discover how skills essential to success on a golf course can help them flourish in life.

These skills include self-management, interpersonal communication, goal setting, mentoring, and effective conflict resolution. The curriculum was developed by experts and is delivered by trained The First Tee coaches at The First Tee of Houston at F.M. Law Park.

The First Tee of Houston at F.M. Law Park offers FREE innovative and technically strong golf instruction for youth ages 7-18.  Classes are offered year-round in six-week long sessions based on age. Golf skill level does not determine program placement.

2011 Summer Registration

Please note that a "WAITING LIST" will be created for classes that have reached the 40 participant max held during the week. The process will be on a FIRST COME FIRST SERVE basis for the waiting list on the day of class. Please contact Registration Coordinator if you have questions concerning registration. Forms received after the first 40 participants will be taken and recorded on the waiting list by the automated time stamp on the registration form.
