HPARD Phase I Move Completed
The Director’s Office, the Management and Finance Division; the Facilities, Management and Development Division; the Greenspace Maintenance Division; the Urban Park Rangers Division; the Grants, Legislation and Development Division; the Permits & Reservations section; and the Communications Division are now located at 2999 South Wayside our main number is (832) 395-7000. The Phase II portion of our move will begin on Nov 20 and will involve the Recreation and Wellness Division. Thank you for your patience and check our website for more updates.
Park Groundbreaking
The Houston Parks and Recreation Department and the Houston Parks Board, along with District I Council Member James Rodriguez and neighbors, met October 23 under a bright blue sky to break ground for Robert C. Stuart Park,7250 Bellfort, in southeast Houston. The newest addition to Houston’s city park inventory is on the bank of Sims Bayou and will combine recreation use with flood control and environmental education, with areas representative of several local ecosystems. Spinning a Yarn –

The Heritage Society Museum, 1100 Bagby, presents “Spinning A Yarn: Houston’s History Through Clothing.” Visit Sam Houston Park as its historic homes come to life with stories of the people who lived in them. Clothing and accessories from the 1830s to the 1920s from The Heritage Society’s permanent collection will be featured.
HPARD Award
In recognition of National Disability Awareness Month, the Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities has awarded HPARD with the 2009 CARE Award. The Citizens Accessibility Resources for Empowerment Award acknowledges the department’s efforts to ensure accessibility to parks for people with disabilities.

Repairs and Renovations
Some HPARD Facilities may be closed or under repair. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and are working to reopen the facilities as soon as possible.
Memorial Drive Lane Closure
Beginning October 12, 2009, the right turn lane of Memorial Drive after the railroad crossing at the approach to Picnic Lane will be closed due to roadwork. This closure will continue until roadwork is completed and should reopen around November 20, 2009.
Tranquility Fountain
Tranquility Fountain is currently closed until further notice for repairs. We will provide updates when available.
Dodson Park Water Sprayground
Dodson Park Water Sprayground is closed for repairs. Target for reopening is November 09, 2009.
