Park partners and supporters are the spokes in our wheel. Without their vision and hard work, we would not be able to bring to reality so many wonderful park projects and initiatives. Together, we share a common goal to keep Houston green, clean and a safe place for our children.
Through their persistence in fund-raising and diligence in addressing the needs of the community, the Houston Parks Board Inc., a nonprofit organization designed to specifically expand and improve Houston's park system, has acquired more than 15,000 acres of land for park development and raised millions of dollars for capital improvement projects. Notable projects of the Houston Parks Board include the First Tee of Houston Junior Golf Facility, project management of five water playgrounds and the acquisition and development of Aron Ledet Park.
Our partnership with the Hermann Park and Memorial Park Conservancy groups means that wonderful things are happening in two of our premier metro parks. These groups have raised millions of dollars for specific park projects that will create green spaces unlike any other in Houston.
Our effort to protect the city's urban forest would not be possible without partners such as the Park People and Trees for Houston. These groups are leading the way for a greener and more beautiful city.
Partnerships formed with governmental agencies such as Harris County, Harris County Flood Control District and Fort Bend County help us maximize resources to maintain and/or develop parkland like Finnigan and Lansdale Parks, Willow Waterhole and Keith Weiss Park and Blue Ridge Park.
The success of the city of Houston parks depends on the support of thousands of Houstonians that contribute to the partners of the Parks and Recreation Department. Without the grass root support of many individuals, families, organizations and corporations, we would not be able to create the kind of green spaces Houstonians have come to expect and enjoy.
