City Pools Scheduled to Open on Time
For Summer Swim Season

The Houston Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to announce all City of Houston pools will open on time.  HPARD Director Joe Turner, Council Member Ada Edwards District D, Deputy Director Doug Earle Recreation and Wellness HPARD will conduct Opening Day Ceremonies at Sunnyside Pool (3502 Bellfort), May 28, 2005 at 1p.m.  The opening day ceremony at Sunnyside will signal the start of the Summer Season and the opening of all City of Houston pools.

“Swimming and summer just go together,” said HPARD Director Joe Turner.  “We’ve been working hard this spring to make sure we’d be able to open all of our city pools on time and we’re glad to say that hard work has paid off.”

The Houston Parks and Recreation Department operates 41 swimming pools across the city.  Thirty-Nine pools will be open for the 2005 swimming season.  Two pools (Cloverland and  Sagemont) will be closed for renovations.  In addition, HPARD operates nine water playgrounds, which are open year-round. 

Pool season runs from Memorial Day Weekend beginning May 28 through Labor Day.
