DATA RESOURCES -EGIS
The City of Houston is nearing the launch of a new, Enterprise Geographic Information System (EGIS), which will enable both City employees and the general public to display and analyze data from an enormous array of resources. The geospatial system will offer access to demographic data, planning data, utility information, crime data, aerial imagery and dozens of other resources that can be interactively mapped and analyzed, via the Internet.
The longer term goal is to enable a regional GIS environment that supports the sharing of data and resources, not only among city departments, but with other local, state and federal agencies, as well as a number of private sector organizations. EGIS will become a powerful tool for planning, tracking and managing growth and development, while providing private citizens with unprecedented access to public information.
