First Montrose Commons

Boundaries

The First Montrose Commons Historic District is roughly bounded by Sul Ross Street to the north, Spur 527 to the east, Colquitt Avenue to the south, and Roseland Avenue to the west.

The original boundaries of the Lockhart, Connor & Barziza and Bute Additions were much larger than the Historic District. The construction of US 59 Spur 527 and other development have reduced the size of the historic neighborhood. However, many of the district’s remaining historic homes and apartment buildings have been restored.

The First Montrose Commons Civic Association also serves an area that is larger than the historic district. The Civic Association’s jurisdiction is between Richmond Avenue to the north, Spur 527 to the east, West Alabama Street to the south, and Montrose Boulevard to the west.
