Summary of Main Street Corridor Master Plan:

The strength of this revitalization initiative lies in the Vision, the foundation for the principles in the Corridor Master Plan, which reflect the needs and desires of the community.

Translating the Vision and Corridor Master Plan into reality, absent regulatory institutionalization of the Vision and Master Plan principles, is being accomplished through an extraordinary synergy generated by the quality and effectiveness of the strong, nontraditional, collaborative, public/private partnership which guides this revitalization effort. This synergy, bolstered by the development of a light rail system, is spurring individual partnerships among stakeholders and an unprecedented “voluntary” implementation of the Vision and the Master Plan principles by stakeholders and developers.

The design philosophy of this effort is the integration of land-use with transportation and the creation of a livable, enriching urban environment where emphasis is placed on creating a sense of space, a quality landscape and intimate spaces where people can have positive interaction with each other and with the environment.

The livable, sustainable, and equitable urban environment that evolves from this revitalization effort will be a model for other areas of the city, the region and the country that are grappling to reverse the trend of sprawl.
