HOUSTON’S URBAN CORRIDOR PLANNING
In June 2006, the City of Houston embarked on a major initiative, Urban Corridor Planning. This initiative will change how the City regulates development and designs its streets and other infrastructure in order to create a high quality urban environment in areas along METRO’s light rail and guided rapid transit corridors: Main Street, Uptown, East End, North, Southeast and University.The Phase I workshop was held in August 2006 and was attended by over 300 participants.

Corridor Specific Workshops
Phase II and III kicked off April 14 and included five corridor specific workshops attended by more than 500 participants over the course of the meetings. Each workshop met for two days and discussed some of the key opportunities for change in the corridor. The second day, participants discussed preliminary design ideas and concepts for the corridor. A presentation of preliminary findings from the workshops was made on May 23rd.

About the May 23rd Presentation
The presentation summarizes the process, the input received and the workshop products. In particular, the presentation describes the key findings that will provide the foundation for the products for each corridor along with tools that could be applicable to all corridors. The presentation focuses on land development concept plans, public realm plans, sample illustrations of corridor transit oriented development concepts and implementation strategies.
