Family Violence Unit - Community Agencies
In 1998, the 66 state-funded family violence shelters provided a safe haven for 27,060 adults and children; assisted 33,755 adults and children with nonresidential services, such as counseling and legal advocacy; answered 136,008 hotline calls; and provided referrals and information to 11,035 batterers. Yet, 3,796 adults were denied shelter due to lack of space. (Texas Department of Human Services, 1998).
