Investigators Arrest Rapist Posing As Police Officer
April 18, 2005 -- Houston police
have arrested a suspect wanted for sexually assaulting several
women in the area of Hillcroft and U.S. Highway 59 (Southwest
Freeway) while posing as a police officer.
Alonzo Robert Rauls (b/m, DOB 11-17-73) is charged
with aggravated sexual assault, aggravated robbery with a deadly
weapon and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 338th
State District Court. The charges stem from two separate incidents
on April 7 and April 11. After he was identified in the cases,
officers with the HPD Major Offenders Division, Sex Crimes Unit
and the Fondren Patrol Division Tactical Unit arrested Rauls in
the 6700 block of Hornwood on April 14.
Through a crime analysis investigation, it is
believed Rauls sexually assaulted at least seven women as they
walked near Hillcroft and Highway 59.
HPD Sex Crimes Unit Sergeant B. Roberts and Officer
P. Moreno reported:
The suspect drove a gray GMC Yukon and pulled
up to women walking between the hours of 10:30 p.m. and 3 a.m.
In each case, he approached the women and offered them money in
exchange for sex. Once a woman entered his vehicle and drove with
him to a secluded area, the suspect displayed a phony Texas Peace
officer's badge and a BB gun that looked like a Glock pistol.
Rauls also talked on what the victims described as a police radio.
He was committing these crimes while still on-duty at his workplace.
During his arrest, investigators recovered the radio, the phony
badge, the BB gun and a tape recorder from Rauls' vehicle.
More charges could be filed against Rauls as
investigators attempt to contact more victims.
