Traffic Incident at 4900 North Loop East

August 24, 2005 -- Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident involving a pedestrian in the 4900 block of the North Loop East service road about 12:30 a.m. today (Aug. 24).

The identity of the victim is pending notification to the next of kin and an autopsy by the Harris County Medical Examiner's office.

HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant R. R. Schweiker and Officer D. J. Gutierrez reported:

The unknown victim in his 40's was pushing a grocery cart in the outside lane of the service road at the location, when an unknown westbound vehicle struck him. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop and render aid. HFD paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the pedestrian dead.
