August 27, 2005 -- Houston police have learned the identity of a dead man found at 4900 Airport about 12:30 p.m. on Friday (Aug. 26). He has been identified as Mr. Sammy Kirk, 75, of 5834 Southlea.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeants C.T. Mosqueda and T. Hernandez reported:

A witness discovered the body of a black male on the southern banks of Sims Bayou at 4900 Airport. Investigators have confirmed it to be that of Mr. Kirk who was reported missing from his residence in the early morning hours of August 15, 2005. Kirk's disappearance prompted an extensive search by the community and police. At the time of his disappearance, Mr. Kirk's family believed that he was suffering from the early stages of Alzheimer's Disease and may have simply wondered away from his residence.

Although there are no signs of foul play in connection with the discovery of Mr. Kirk, his cause of death is pending a ruling by the Harris County Medical Examiner's office.
