Traffic Incident at 4800 Ennis

February 3, 2005 -- The driver of a vehicle that was fleeing from police dies after a brief chase that occurred at the 4800 block of Ennis on Thursday, February 3, 2005 around 12:55 a.m.

Houston Police Department Traffic Division investigator Officer R. Stafford
reported that the unknown driver of a 1991 Chevy Blazer was fleeing from an
HPD patrol unit when the driver lost control. Investigators said the chase
started on Blodgett and only ran for a couple of minutes. The Blazer went off
the road striking Officer M. Reeves, who was out of his parked patrol car on
an unrelated traffic stop at the same location. The Blazer than collided with
a residential fence and the driver was ejected, landing under the second
patrol car. That driver was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the
fleeing vehicle was able to make it to his home and was transported to Ben
Taub General Hospital by ambulance. HPD officers later arrested him.

Officer Reeves was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in stable
condition with minor injuries to both legs and left arm and was later released
at around 4:30 a.m.

Charges are pending against the passenger of the Blazer once the investigation
is complete.
