Incident at 14250 Kimberley Lane

July 4, 2005 -- Houston police are investigating the drowning of a child at 14250 Kimberley Lane about 4 p.m. on Saturday (July 2).

The victim is identified as Rickey Attaway, 10, of 3200 Prudence.

HPD Homicide Division Officer S. R. Straughter reported:

The victim and several friends were swimming in the apartment's swimming pool when one of the children threw a football into the deep end of the pool. The victim, Rickey Attaway, jumped into the deep water in an attempt to retrieve the ball. After several minutes, a 14-year-old noticed that the boy had not resurfaced. She jumped into the water and pulled him to the surface. Rickey Attaway was transported to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital where he later died.
