Traffic Incident at Harvard at 12th Street

June 14, 2005 -- Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at Harvard at 12th Street on Monday (June 13) about 11:20 p.m.

The victim, Mary Meineke, 28, was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where she later died.

HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant M. W. Bearden and Officer R. Newton reported:

Ms. Meineke, riding a motorscooter and traveling eastbound on 12th Street, ran the stop sign at the intersection of 12th Street and Harvard. An SUV, which had the right-of-way and was traveling south on Harvard, struck Ms. Meineke. She suffered major injuries and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where she died. The driver of the SUV, who was not injured, remained at the scene until officers arrived. There was no indication of negligence on the part of the SUV driver.

The investigation is continuing.
