Traffic Incident at 12200 Katy Freeway

June 23, 2005 -- A suspect has been arrested and charged in the fatal traffic accident at 12200 Katy Freeway about 1:30 a.m. today (June 23).

The suspect, Sung Wan Chon (A/m DOB: 6-17-72) has been charged with intoxication manslaughter. The male victim's identity is pending notification to next of kin by the Harris County Medical Examiner's office. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Houston Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant D. S. Runyan and Officer I. M. Labdi reported:

Houston police observed the suspect driving erratically on the service road after responding to a citizen's report of a D.W.I. Before police could catch up to Chon's vehicle, Chon veered across the grass median, cut across all lanes of traffic on the freeway, and struck the center retaining wall. The victim, who was a passenger in Chon's vehicle, was ejected from the vehicle and then ran over by it.
