Traffic Incident at Katy Freeway near Eldridge

May 21, 2005 -- Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at Katy Freeway service road near Eldridge about 2:45 a. m. today (May 21).

The identity of the deceased victim is pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner's office.

HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant D. S. Runyan and Officer L. D. Ferguson reported:

An older model Mercury Grand Marquis was traveling eastbound on the service road at a high rate of speed when the driver suddenly veered to the right, left the roadway and struck a tree head on. The driver was killed instantly and his injured front seat passenger was transported to an area hospital in an unknown condition.

The investigation is continuing.
