Update on Incident at 2020 Bentworth

May 23, 2005 -- The identity of a child critically injured in a near drowning at 2020
Bentworth about 7:30 p.m. on Friday (May 20) has been released.

The victim, 12, is identified as Cynthia Aguilar, who lives in the apartment complex at 2020 Bentworth.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M. D. Newcomb and Officer T. Huynh reported:

Cynthia, her brother and another friend jumped the locked gate surrounding the apartment complex's swimming pool and began wading in the pool. The girl waded in the three-foot deep section and proceeded toward the five-foot deep section of the pool where she suddenly disappeared into the murky water.

Several citizens pulled Cynthia from the pool and began CPR until paramedics arrived. She was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition.

The investigation is continuing.
