May 26, 2005 -- Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 4500 Beechnut today (May 26) about 2 a.m.

The identity of the male victim is pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner's office.

HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant D. S. Runyan and Officer T. D. Houston reported:

Precinct 5 Deputy Constables attempted to stop a speeding Toyota Camry in the 8600 Block of Beechnut shortly before 2 a.m. The driver of the vehicle refused to pull over and a chase ensued. A check of the vehicle's license plate determined it to be stolen.

The 14-year-old driver of the fleeing vehicle lost control of the vehicle at 4500 Beechnut, crashed through a guardrail and plunged into Braes Bayou. He was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital with undetermined injuries. A juvenile passenger in the stolen vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. No HPD units were involved in the chase. However, members of the HPD Homicide Division went to the scene since it resulted in the death of a juvenile. Charges are pending against the juvenile driver.
