2nd Update on Incident at 600 66th Street

April 4, 2006 -- Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal stabbing of a man at 600 66th Street about 4 a.m. on March 21, 2006.

The suspect, Jose Louis Castillo (H/m, DOB 7/23/58), is charged with murder in the 351st State District Court.

HPD Police Department Homicide Division Sergeant D.A. Ferguson and Officer C.L. Scales reported that a citizen spotted Mr. Meza lying on the sidewalk at 600 66th Street at Canal and then called 911. Meza was bleeding from a stab wound to the upper torso. HFD transported him to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The motive for the killing is believed to have been robbery.
