Incident at 2007 Commerce Street

July 12, 2006 -- The fatal shooting of one suspect and the wounding of another suspect at 2007 Commerce Street about 3 a.m. today (July 12) will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.

Charges are pending against the wounded suspect, Keith Douglas Pruitt (b/m, DOB 6/8/67) who sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to an area hospital. The identity of the deceased suspect, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds, is pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner's office.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant L.A. Flores and Officer P. Yochum reported:

The business owner, Michael Allen Staine, was asleep inside of his business when the two suspects broke into the building. Staine, startled by the intruders, armed himself with a gun and confronted both suspects. The unidentified suspect ran towards Staine, who began firing at the suspects striking both men. One suspect was dead at the scene and suspect Pruitt fled to 1800 Congress where he was taken into custody and transported to the hospital.
