Incident at 9595 Westview

June 13, 2006 -- Houston police are investigating the death of a child at 9595 Westview #910 about 8:50 p.m. on Monday (June 12).

The victim, identified as Enrique Vasquez Jr., two years old, of 9595 Westview #910, was pronounced dead at Spring Branch Medical Center.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M.K. Peters and Officer A.J. Palos reported:

The child was at home getting his haircut by his brother when the child's father gave him a grape to eat. The child then started choking on the grape. The child's father attempted to clear his throat, but was unable to do so. The child stopped breathing and was transported to a nearby hospital, where the medical staff attempted unsuccessfully to resuscitate the child.

The Harris County Medical Examiner's office will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
