Incident at 5500 Antoine

June 17, 2006 -- Houston police are seeking the identity a suspect who may have been wounded by a Houston police officer after he pointed a pistol at the officer in the 5500 block of Antoine about 10 p.m. on Friday (June 16).

The officer who discharged his weapon, Sergeant J.R. Chase of the North Patrol Division, was sworn in as an officer in December 1984. He was not injured.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M. McStravick and Officer T.A. Andrade reported:

Sergeant Chase was dispatched to a disturbance call involving a man with a gun at 5700 Tidwell. Upon arrival, he discovered the correct address to be 5500 Antoine. As Sergeant Chase arrived at the new location, witnesses told him that the suspect was armed. Sergeant Chase confronted the suspect, who initially complied with his orders by placing himself on the ground. However, the suspect stood up and pointed a handgun at the sergeant, who fired his weapon several times at the suspect who fled the scene. It is believed that the suspect was wounded, however, he has not been located at this time.

As is customary in officer-involved shootings in the city limits, the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions and the Harris County District Attorney's office are investigating the case.
