Traffic Incident at 4400 North Eldridge Parkway

March 17, 2006 -- Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 4400 block of North Eldridge Parkway about noon today (Mar. 17).

The deceased victim is identified as Robert Ronald Sorrell of Netherlands, Texas. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant L.A. Washington and Officers D. Harwell and R. Tallent reported:

The driver of a van was traveling south on North Eldridge Parkway and apparently became distracted and rear-ended a Mazda vehicle and then struck several other vehicles in the middle lane of North Eldridge waiting for the light to turn green. The impact killed Mr. Sorrell, the driver of the Mazda. Drivers of the other damaged vehicles were not injured.

The driver of the van, William Paul Johnson, told investigators he was transporting five dogs, three of which were loose in the van at the time of the accident.

No charges have been filed in this case at this time. The investigation is continuing.
